openXEdge
An edge system you ship under your brand. Ubuntu Core, Docker services, signed updates from our update server, a manual in your look.
What the openXEdge is
An industrial PC at the machine, designed as a device rather than a project: Ubuntu Core as a hardened operating system, on top a stack of Docker services we maintain and deliver as signed updates. The customer switches it on, activates it and works.
Services in the standard scope:
- Main UI for setup, network, connection to control and sensors
- DataStore for capture, evaluation and visualisation of process data
- Sensor bridge for IO-Link masters and analogue signals
- Grafana, PostgreSQL, MQTT for your own analyses and integrations
- Update service with Ed25519-signed packages from the update server

Your brand, your manual
Each customer gets its own delivery channel, a stream: logo, colours, product name, enabled services and a manual that names only your brand. Manuals are online per stream and as an offline bundle on the device.
The public manual shows the scope: edges.brinkhaus-gmbh.de
Operation in the field
- Devices report to the FleetManager: state, version, last seen
- Serial number from the factory, initial password on the delivery note, customer name and inventory number free to choose
- Documents and downloads per device in the customer portal
- Documentation for conformity with the Cyber Resilience Act: security concept, vulnerability management, security contact
Where it comes from
The openXEdge grew out of the EUProGigant and ESCOM research projects (Gaia-X compatible edge systems, deployment via asset administration shells). In the field at a well-known German component manufacturer under their brand since 2023, in research since 2026. Current hardware: fanless industrial PC with several network ports; other platforms on request.
